"Just Keep Swimming"

Dory: Hey there, Mr. Grumpy Gills. When life gets you down do you wanna know what you've gotta do?

Marlin: No I don't wanna know.

Dory: [singing] Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim.

Marlin: Dory, no singing.

Dory: [continuing] Ha, ha, ha, ha, ho. I love to swim. When you want to swim you want to swim.

Marlin: Now I'm stuck with that song... Now it's in my head.

Dory: Sorry.

Surely you remember the classic scene from "Finding Nemo"

Last week I had a coaching session with my friend Dave who's a swim coach.  I had quite a few "ah ha" moments just the first hour we spent in the water.  Part of my problem in the past has been trying to focus on way too many factors related to my stroke, as there were so many things to correct, but he continues to remind me to simplify what's going on in the head and body - and focus on only a couple of things at a time.  Very helpful.

Between his guidance and some insight I'm gleaning from Sheila Taormina's new book on swim technique, I believe I'm making progress toward getting faster.  I know it's as much a mindset as as skill, and one day indeed I will graduate from the turtle lane at Master's swim class.

Dory's advice is wise.  Just keep swimming.
